Honest to God true story

An artist friend was at the Great Gulfcoast Art Festival in Pensacola, excited to have been juried in. Sales wer e only OK, but a couple of women spotted a very large painting the first day and stood looking and talking for quite awhile. They came back and did the same thing the second day, and again the third. Finally at the end of the show, with the artist getting excited that she may be making a very good sale, one of the women approached her and asked, "What would you take for that frame?"

That's horrible. I can only shake my head in amazed disgust. What was her (verbal) response to those clueless ones?

I would have tripled my wholesale price for the frame and sold it to her.

Or, she could have sold the frame for the price of the painting.

"The frame is what I am selling. The artwork is like those photos that come with a wallet when you buy one. Oh, wait. You don't understand "wallet", do you?"

I wanted to add that I would NOT have taken the art out of the frame until the end of the show because then it would be impossible to sell the art. And, after all, that is what we are there to do.

I think I would have just said nothing while I Googled the nearest frame shop, then give them directions, explaining that they were at an ART fair. And no way would I sell them the frame... I kind of need those to sell the art inside them.
